It’s always nice to know what to expect and how things work. I thought I would give you a little glimpse into the workflow of a typical newborn photo session from start to finish. A lot of work goes into a session even before the first image is captured. I will work with you to select your colours for your session, any special captures you want and give you info on how to prepare for your session so you and baby are at your most comfortable.
It first starts with choosing the colours you would like for your portraits. Some people like to coordinate with nursery colours, some with home décor colours, and others like to just keep it neutral for that classic, timeless look. It is a good idea to take some time to think about what you want to do with your portraits and where you want to display them.

Here are just a few colour choices to choose from.
I like people to pick out two colours that work well together. This gives some variety to your proofing collection while staying cohesive. These colours are used for blanket shots, wraps for baby and accent colours for basket/crate shots. Once I have a good idea of what the session will look like, I prepare and gather items necessary to make the session great. Typically I use minimal props and accessories as I like baby to be the true star of the image, but I do have a collection of hats, hairbands & knitted outfits for your use.

Once the session day arrives you will be prepared and well informed. Ahead of time, I will email you an information package which will explain how the session will flow and what you can do to prepare baby, yourself and others included in the portraits. Your session will be relaxed and calm and I encourage you to sit back and take some time for yourself while I create images of baby.

So what can you expect your proofing gallery to look like? Well, sometimes the amount of images in a newborn proofing gallery can vary. This is due to how settled and how well baby tolerates the session – if baby is unsettled, lots of breaks for feedings and cuddles are necessary. This is normal and all part of the process. For a full newborn session you can expect anywhere between 50-100 image in your proofing gallery to choose from, and about 30-50 in a short and sweet newborn wrapped session. Â

I also like to get your proofing gallery out to you as soon as within 48 hours of the session. These little ones change so fast and it is nice to view your gallery in the moment. Your proofing gallery will contain raw, un-edited images and only the images you order will be touched up and edited. Here is an example of a typical newborn edit. There is a lot of work that goes into the edit and orders typically take 10-14 days to complete.

Once images are edited and ready for you, you will be notified that they are ready for download. Instructions and tips for printing are included as well as help through me if needed.
I hope this glimpse of what goes into a newborn photo session was helpful and informative. I find know how things will flow and how to prepare make for calm and relaxed parents and baby! I look forward to meeting you and your new and growing family soon!
